THE PROJECT
Food Brings Us Together
Eating Together, Being Together brings together recipes, activities, and advice from chef dad Julian Clauss-Ehlers and psychologist mom Dr. Caroline S. Clauss-Ehlers. Created to encourage families to cook, eat, and connect, the book explores how time spent together in the kitchen can help build meaningful relationships with food and with one another. I created twelve original pen illustrations — one for each chapter — to introduce the themes and set a playful, approachable tone throughout the book.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
From Everyday Life Moments
Many of the illustrations began with real-life moments in the kitchen. I staged and photographed scenes like ingredients on the counter and everyday cooking routines, using them as references for loose sketches and final pen drawings. This approach helped the illustrations feel authentic and relatable. The goal was to create artwork that feels whimsical and fun without being overly polished — illustrations that invite families into the book and reflect the joy and connection that comes from sharing time in the kitchen.
